There are really two families of McDonald’s burgers. The classic burgers (Hamburger, Cheeseburger, McDouble, Double Cheeseburger and Big Mac) use thin 1.6-ounce frozen patties. The Quarter Pounder family uses thicker fresh-beef patties that are cooked when you order, which is why they cost more and taste juicier.

Big Mac vs. Quarter Pounder vs. McDouble

The Big Mac is all about the special sauce and the three-part bun, at about $5.91. The Quarter Pounder with Cheese costs slightly more but delivers more beef and 30 grams of protein. And the McDouble gives you two patties and 22 grams of protein for about three dollars, making it the best value burger on the menu. Add shredded lettuce and Mac sauce to a McDouble and you have the famous “Poor Man’s Big Mac.”
